Rocket Boosters 2007

You are invited to the Knights of Columbus Rocket Boosters 2007 - an exciting week of "learning, living and fun" in celebration of the 38th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon Landing.

Three major events are planned under the banner, “Learning, Living, Fun.” :

The week-long celebration begins at Grenoble Hall at St. Hugh of Grenoble Catholic Church, Tuesday, July 10, 2007 at 7:00 p.m.with a discussion of the 38th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon Landing. The featured speakers will be:

Mrs. Marjorie Sparks, the 2006 Maryland Knights of Columbus Catholic Teacher of the Year, and
Dr. John Mather, Senior Project Scientist at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center and recipient of the 2006 Nobel Prize in Physics.

On Saturday, July 14, 2007, the celebration moves to Greenbelt Park in Greenbelt, Maryland. Billed as “A Day & Night with the Knights!” families are invited to participate in Disc Golf, a Treasure Hunt, Great Food, a Campfire Program and Overnight Camping in Greenbelt National Park. Greenbelt Park is the closest campground to the Nation's Capitol, only 13 miles from the White House, affording families easy side trips to the College Park Aviation Museum, and the Paint Branch Running Trail.

On Sunday, July 15, 2007, the Knights will sponsor a Model Rocketry Contest at the Visitors Center of the Goddard Space Flight Center. Participants will launch their model rocket at NASA and see how long it remains up in the air. The festivities begin at 12 Noon with Registration and a Rocket Preparation / Safety Check. Continuous launches are scheduled from 1 p.m. - 3 p.m., followed by an Awards Ceremony at 3:30 p.m. Certificates of Participation will be presented to all Rocketeers, and Award-Winners will receive Trophies. (Note: Participants must use an Estes A8-3 or a Quest A6-4 engine.)
