Third grade is a wonderful year, with many new opportunities and challenges for our children! Among other things, this is the year when students change over from print to cursive.

In religion studies, we learn about the main truths Catholics believe, particularly those expressed in the Apostle’s Creed. We learn about what it means to belong to the faith community called the Church.

Our reading series focuses on reading strategies, comprehension, decoding, vocabulary, and information and study skills. The stories we read introduce students to different genres and writing styles. Grammar and spelling is taught separately and with their own texts but the skills are supported by material in the reading series.

Third grade math begins with a review of basic math facts and ends with multiplication and division facts. Calendar skills, story problems, telling time, and reading a thermometer are among the many sections students will encounter throughout the school year.

Our science studies cover many topics as well. We discover and learn about food chains, constellations, and energy during just the first two quarters of the school year.

Third grade Social Studies covers communities (past and present), geography and citizenship.
